Aqua

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Aqua from Los Barrios came to the animal shelter in August 2026, when she was about one year old. She is a beautiful mixed-breed female dog who was most likely abandoned and found on the street before being brought to the shelter. When Aqua arrived, she was in very poor condition. She was covered in ticks and fleas and extremely thin. Despite whatever she may have experienced before coming to the shelter, she is settling in well and showing us what a sweet young dog she is. Aqua enjoys her daily time outside the kennel, where she can spend time with other dogs. She feels comfortable both around males and females and seems to enjoy their company. She is still such a young dog, with a playful nature and so much life ahead of her. But like all dogs in the shelter, Aqua spends more than 23.5 hours every day in a kennel. She deserves much more than to grow up this way. She deserves a responsible, forever home where she will be cared for, loved, and given the time and attention she needs to thrive. Aqua has already had a difficult start in life. Now she needs someone who will give her the safe, happy, and loving future she deserves, and who will never leave her without the care she should have always had. Aqua is ready for her second chance. Could you be the person who gives her that chance? Aqua was lucky enough to take part in a large event on the grounds where we hope to build our future shelter. She had her own volunteer helper with her throughout the day, who looked after her so she could experience the event and have the opportunity to meet potential adopters. The event was well attended, with many people, children, dogs, music, and activities all around her. Aqua really enjoyed her outing. She happily greeted the people who came to meet her, and she loved being cuddled and receiving attention. She seemed very happy to be surrounded by people and enjoyed all the interaction she received. Unfortunately, no one fell in love with Aqua that day, so she had to return to the shelter after the event. She is now waiting there for the person who will give her the forever home she deserves.

DE·Show original

About Aqua

What life with Aqua looks like

Aqua is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aqua, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aqua?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aqua on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aqua if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Aqua already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aqua isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aqua and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
