Adopt Sudoku

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Sudoku is initially cautious around strangers but becomes more trusting with familiar people. As Sudoku was born in the camp, he knows little of the outside world. Walking on a leash is particularly challenging for him—he shows great fear and uncertainty. We are looking for people with experience in dealing with anxious dogs and who can dedicate the time and patience needed to show Sudoku the vast outside world in small steps outside the camp. The local helpers are already practicing with him and working to provide him with a sense of security. Sudoku is the son of Bella and, like his eight siblings, he was born on a piece of land. Once he and his siblings could eat on their own and were old enough to live without their mother, they were brought to Melampo. Initially, Bella could not be saved because she was so fearful, but she eventually had another litter of 13 puppies, which provided her with the security she needed. Now, she is also in Melampo, spayed, and in a safe place. Sudoku has a good character, is social, follows the helpers at the camp, and is playful. In new situations, he is fearful because he knows nothing outside of Melampo. As a puppy, he was very active and a bit crazy with his eight siblings, but now he is more calm. He loves going for walks on the land of Melampo with his siblings and always seeks human contact. He still needs to get used to all everyday sounds and has not yet learned to walk on a leash. Sudoku gets along well with both male and female dogs and participates in the daily walks with the larger group. He prefers the company of people over long walks. We are looking for comfortable and especially patient people who live in a more remote and quiet setting. It will take time for Sudoku to learn everything that is normal and everyday for us. Good luck, Sudoku, you deserve to be found by your people. The nine puppies, all with Japanese names (Tokio, Sakura, Wasabi, Nazomi, Sudoku, Sushi, Kioto, Tataki, and Yukito), appeared on a piece of land and were there alone. Perhaps an unintended litter. It remains uncertain. All puppies have been checked by a vet and are healthy. According to their age, they are very active and playful. They appear happy and are very affectionate and friendly to the local volunteers. The puppies are still growing and are likely to get bigger. It is difficult to predict their exact size, as we do not know their parents. They are too young for spaying or neutering, and this must be done in Switzerland once they are old enough. Potential owners should be aware that a puppy brings a lot of work and requires more time and patience. The puppies are growing up in an animal shelter and have never lived in a home, so they are unfamiliar with household sounds and routines. It will take a lot of time, patience, and empathy to acclimate them to everything new and build their upbringing from the ground up. For people who can meet all these requirements, it is a wonderful opportunity to welcome a puppy into their life from the start.

About Sudoku

What life with Sudoku looks like

Sudoku is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sudoku, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sudoku?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sudoku on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sudoku if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sudoku already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sudoku isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sudoku and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
