ARCHIE

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Archie – male, neutered, born approx. 04/2023, shoulder height approx. 25–27 cm, weight approx. 4.6 kg, at the Belchatow animal shelter since 23.04.2026. The little Archie is brought to us; Agnes, his caregiver, carries him in her arms. We can see right away: the little guy is overwhelmed, not at all frantic but rather motionless. The shelter situation, the noise, the surroundings, all of this is getting to him, and that is the impression we have here on site. He trembles and stays in her arms at first, which is fine for him; here he feels safe, and he looks slightly "worried" into the distance. When Agnes sets him down on the ground, he lies down right away; the leash frightens him. We can touch him carefully, but we don't want to stress him any further, and he was sweet about it. He shows no aggression, doesn't snap, doesn't flee. Agnes can scratch him, but even so, the situation out here with us is not comfortable for him; he does not feel at ease. His claws were very long, so we took him to the clinic, where he let us trim them nicely. We feel very sorry for the little Muck: he has no undercoat, he is so tiny and delicate, and winter will be hard for him. This environment is not good for Archie. We will visit him again and give an update, and hopefully he will be doing better by then. Even better would be if the little guy found a home quickly and were allowed to leave the shelter. Daily life in the overcrowded, loud shelter weighs heavily on many dogs, understandably so; they often withdraw and cannot show themselves, even though they may want to. Archie once had a home; he came to the shelter neutered. According to the shelter, "a household without children would be better. Archie is a small, intelligent and independent Jack Russell, perhaps a bit stubborn, as is typical for this breed. Archie is not aggressive; he needs a little time to build trust. He is looking for a home, for people who understand the special characteristics of this breed." Archie urgently needs people who give him time and attention, calm and security. The leash still stresses him a great deal; this has to be practiced, ideally with a harness. He shares his enclosure with males and females. (10/2026 B/KW)

(10/2026 B/KW)

About ARCHIE

What life with ARCHIE looks like

ARCHIE is a very small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting ARCHIE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ARCHIE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ARCHIE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ARCHIE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is ARCHIE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ARCHIE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know ARCHIE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
