Adopt Arek

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Male, has been neutered. Born around June 1, 2023MixbreedHeight around 59 cm / Weight around 30 kgPflegestelle Spain: Refugio AmpostaThe handsome young male dog Arek arrived from Perrera in Vinaros to Monika at her shelter on November 15, 2024. Arek is a typical young dog, very friendly and open to humans. He enjoys every bit of attention and is still quite playful and sometimes stormy on the go. With female dogs, he is very well compatible, while with male dogs, he shows a bit of dominance, but it works well depending on the relationship. Anaïs and Daniela also got to meet Arek during their visit to the shelter and were impressed by the imposing male dog. The agile Arek is looking for active people who want to challenge and support him and show him the world. If children are in the new home, they should already be a bit bigger, as Arek cannot gauge his strength precisely. One should have a certain amount of physical strength to handle the strong Arek in challenging situations. The handsome dog would also be happy to attend a good dog training class. Are you exactly the person Arek has been waiting for so long? Then feel free to contact us via email.

About Arek

What life with Arek looks like

Arek is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz in Switzerland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ANDANA Pfotenhilfe Schweiz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
