Arlo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Arlo has been waiting in our partner animal shelter Allatbarat in Hungary for about a year and a half. A long time - but an incredible amount has happened to him. When Arlo came to us, he was a fearful dog who wouldn't let anyone touch him and kept people at arm's length. Today, a completely different Arlo stands before us: happy, open, curious, and sometimes even a really funny dog. His initial fears are no longer noticeable in the familiar shelter environment. He has learned to trust and take life much more lightly. A move to a new home will be a big change for him and will initially bring up uncertainties again. His future humans should therefore not expect Arlo to be standing in the living room from day one as he is in the familiar animal shelter. First of all, it means: arrive, build trust and gain security. After that, you can learn together what Arlo still needs to know for living with his humans. Arlo gets along well with his fellow dogs and lives problem-free in a mixed group. We are looking for people who want to give him this long overdue new start and have enough understanding if he needs some time at first. People who do not pity him or wrap him in cotton wool, but give him security, accompany him confidently and show him: you can rely on us. We don't see Arlo in a busy big city. A home in an environment with manageable stimuli would be ideal for him. Arlo has shown in the past year and a half how much development is in him. Now it's really time for him to take the next step - out of the animal shelter and into his new life.

DE·Show original

Inzwischen wartet Arlo seit rund anderthalb Jahren in unserem Partnertierheim Allatbarat in Ungarn. About Arlo

What life with Arlo looks like

Arlo is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. in Marsberg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arlo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arlo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arlo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arlo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arlo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arlo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arlo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
