Artuš

Mixed Breed · Male

Hello friends, my name is Artuš. (My original name was Atak, but I didn't like it) Name was one of the few things I had in my life, otherwise I lacked many things, unfortunately even the basic and necessary ones. I'm about 8 years old and I spent my life on a chain. The chain that determined the size of my living space and believe me, it was very little. I had also a "roof over my head", a wooden cabin. No, it wasn't insulated. No, it wasn't lined with straw. It was just a wooden cabin. I had no master, I belonged to no one. I was at one social facility for people. Unfortunately, social was only for them, not for me. Many times, however, super clients came and for a while my world changed. I suddenly had more food, but mainly I had affection, kind words, love. I looked forward to them every day, I lived only for those moments when I saw them and I would jump with joy. Jumping on the chain. 😥 These clients came and went. It broke my heart again and again. In recent times, however, I was already on a leash, they used to let me go from the chain - Run! Run! U T E Č! I desperately ran around the town and looked for help. No one helped. There were rumors about my shooting. I don't know what that is, but people get chills down their spines when they hear that word. One kind lady who came a little less than a year ago often had tears in her eyes when she spoke to me. She took care of the kittens that lived there. She hid them from the cold in the room. She cried because she couldn't hide me. They were also in danger. It was exactly she who changed my life! She wrote to OZ Srdce for cats and looked for help for them. When the girls from OZ came for them, she also showed me. And already in Košice, they cried because of me, the good people already knew about me! They came back for me 😊 They took me off the chain, took me out of my cabin... and we left! Thus ended Artuško's suffering and a new life began. Artuško thanks everyone who contributed to his rescue, thanks them for life. Artuško is now waiting in our shelter for his dream home. Artuš is an amazing senior dog who enjoys everything that happens. Everything that "chain" took from him. If you happen to think of Artuško as an old dog, be careful - Artuš is a Turbo dog, beautiful build and in excellent condition. He is everywhere where a person looks. He enjoys the feeling of freedom and happily runs - sometimes we have the impression that his paws can't touch the ground fast enough, how fast he runs. He enjoys every little thing, whether it is a treat, a pat or just a bowl of water. He is a very grateful dog! Toys don't interest him at all, he doesn't know what to do with them. He pulls on the leash because he wants to be everywhere and see everything. He is a very smart and sensible dog who learns quickly. Getting to know him is quick, he likes everyone. He gets along with female dogs, he chooses the males. He chases cats and we don't recommend him with other small animals. He has good hygiene habits and handling is trouble-free. He is suitable for someone more experienced, or responsible first-time dog owners, who will correctly guide and socialize him. The ideal home for Artuško is a house with access to the yard. We will not allow him to be separated from people again. And finally, Artuško's request: I love humans. I long for love and caresses. I want to have a master who will show me the world I did not know. I very much want to have my family. I want to run! To make up for the years that "fate" took from me. I want to be loved by someone ❤️ Please become my other half. My family. My world. My universe. I will be the most loyal dog you ever had.

Mne to lámalo srdce znova a znova. Mojou rodinou. Mojím svetom. Mojím vesmírom. Budem ten najvernejší pes akého ste kedy mali.

About Artuš

What life with Artuš looks like

Artuš is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Artuš, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Artuš?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Artuš on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Artuš if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Artuš already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Artuš isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Artuš and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
