Ash

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

This lovely girl is Ash. She is roughly 10 years old and is looking for a new home because her elderly owner is unable to give her the time, companionship and exercise she needs. He is also at risk of falling, and her being a bit boisterous at times is a worry for him. She is in Northern Ireland, near Craigavon. Ash is a very friendly, affectionate dog with a lovely personality. She gets along with sensible older dogs though she will have a growl at rowdy younger dogs. She has been a working dog all her life but in recent years, has not been worked. She got on well with other dogs in the field and is great with other dogs in the family. Although she is around 10 years old, she still has plenty of energy to go for lots of walks and can still behave like a bit of a pup! Ash has mostly lived outdoors in a kennel or garage. In recent years, her owner has had her indoors more often but due to the risks of injury, she is still outdoors for lots of her time. She is not getting enough attention, so is often whining when outdoors. If she comes indoors, she doesn’t have accidents but she might need some help to become fully housetrained. When she has been left alone indoors, she has been destructive (ripping bedding and the bin apart) but she might learn to settle more once she is having more exercise again. She cannot live with a cat (she will chase to catch) and has not been tested around livestock. She loves children and has often been around her owner’s grandchildren, but she is very boisterous so could knock over smaller people, especially since being indoors is a novelty to her. She used to have very good recall to the whistle. This has slipped a little in recent years, as her time on walks has reduced, but she still has pretty good recall. She possibly recalls better to a male voice, if a whistle isn’t used. She walks on a slip lead and enjoys travelling in the car. Although family members have helped to take her on some walks, Ash has gained some weight as her exercise levels have dropped. If you think you could give this lovely older girl a loving home where she will again get lots of exercise and attention please email us on . Given her age our preference is for to be rehomed in NI or close by. She will be rehomed under our adoption contract and free five weeks Agria insurance. About Ash

What life with Ash looks like

Ash is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ash, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ash?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ash on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ash if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ash already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ash isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ash and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
