Adopt Asterix

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

During our project and spaying/neutering tour in mid-March 2024, we of course also reserved some time to see dogs that are already listed on our website. September 22, 2025: A team member and her daughter sacrificed some of their vacation time to personally meet or see some of the shelter dogs. During this visit, they also met the impressive siblings Asterix and Anouk. At the two of them, one must not be deceived by their size: they are incredibly friendly, open, and simply adorable. They constantly seek proximity, enjoy every pat, and even demand them with their paw. They also sweetly invite play, jump around happily, and treat each other with great affection. So it is even sadder that these two wonderful dogs still have to live in the Canile – they have so much love to give and are eagerly waiting for a home. Would you like to show Asterix or Anouk how beautiful life in a family can be? January 27, 2026: We do not give up. It breaks our heart that Asterix still sits in the Rifugio of LIDA. Not long ago, he – because the Rifugio is overcrowded – had to move into a tiny pen. Although he got a nice companion, the pen is so tiny that these two large dogs barely have room to move around each other. And to make matters worse, Asterix now also loses this beloved companion with whom he understood each other so well. For she is leaving on January 30th, finding a great home in Germany. And Asterix must again – as so often – be left sadly behind. Why? We do not understand. Asterix is described by the people who have been taking him out of the tiny pen for walks, at least occasionally with his companion Girella, as very loving and friendly. He is a bit reserved with men but very open and unguarded with women. He is grateful for any affection and is happy when he can snuggle up to a person. Who gives the lovable Asterix the chance to finally enjoy a real home in a family? He has really waited long enough. If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide support.

About Asterix

What life with Asterix looks like

Asterix is a very small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Asterix, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Asterix?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Asterix on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Asterix if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Asterix already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Asterix isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Asterix and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
