Adopt Athena

Belgian Malinois · Female · Adult · 7 years

Name: Athena Birthdate: August 2019 Breed: Malinois Weight: 20 kg shoulder height 55cm Health: Vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered tested for Mediterranean diseases. The 6-year-old female dog was born to a breeder in Romania but was kept and treated very poorly there. A local Greek dog trainer took pity on her and brought her to Greece. He tried for several weeks, but failed to build trust with the very shy girl. By chance, our animal shelter leader noticed her and, supported by her own male Malinois, gained access to her within a short visit and was able to walk her immediately. Consequently, she was allowed to stay and has lived since then at our animal shelter in Greece. Now, ATHENA has overcome her shyness and trusts humans. She would love to quickly leave behind the stress of the animal shelter and exchange her cage for a warm dog bed with close contact to familiar people! ATHENA is familiar with life in a house and in a mixed pack. She is very compatible with dogs of both genders, although due to her breed, she should not be placed in a home with cats or very small dogs. An idyllic, rural, and peaceful home would be ideal for the female dog. Also, having another only dog, preferably another Malinois, would be perfect for ATHENA. For a Malinois, ATHENA is rather calm compared to the typical representatives of her breed. Characteristically intelligent, active, and equipped with an absolute "Will-to-Please," she is very people-oriented and strongly looks up to her primary caregiver. Outdoors on walks, she stays in constant contact with the "other end of the leash" and is very well behaved on a leash. In unknown situations, she seeks security and guidance from her human – if she receives this, she can usually handle situations where she might not be quite as confident alone. Ideally, we wish for breed-savvy adopters (as either a final or foster home) who are willing to provide an appropriate environment for a Malinois. Even beginners with Malinois who are willing to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the needs of this working breed could be suitable for ATHENA. If there are children in the family, they should be dog-savvy and older. Location: Greece Contact: Michaela Trautsch Tel.:.

Aufenthaltsort: GriechenlandKontakt: Michaela TrautschTel.:

About Athena

What life with Athena looks like

Athena is a medium-sized adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
