Adopt Athos

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Senior · 14 years

• Due to German laws, Athos cannot be rehomed to Germany. Athos is a handsome Staffordshire-mixed breed with a heavy past. Since 2017, he has been waiting at the Romanian animal shelter for his chance – nine long years behind bars, without his own home, without people who love him and give him security. It is high time that his fate finally turns for the better. Toward people, Athos is friendly and approachable. He allows petting, enjoys attention, and shows a calm demeanor when handled. He is not a stormy dog but rather a quiet character who needs clear structures and reliable people. With other dogs, Athos decides based on mutual liking. He is generally more of a lone prince, and would certainly enjoy the undivided attention of his people. He knows basic commands like “sit” and “stay” and also walks well on a leash. Since our caretakers can only take him on walks with a leash and collar due to his tendency to escape, he is well accustomed to being on a leash and collar. Athos is physically fit despite his age, but also very inventive: He tends to find ways to escape. Therefore, he needs an absolutely escape-proof home with a securely fenced yard, as well as secure windows and balconies.

About Athos

What life with Athos looks like

Athos is a senior staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Athos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Athos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Athos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Athos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Athos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Athos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Athos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
