Augustus (E2021031)

Male · Senior · 24 years

Augustus (or Gus Gus!) is a very handsome little Dartmoor chap. He can be nervous of new people, but once settled into a routine, he is a pleasure to have around. He is very inquisitive and loves to watch everything being done around him and get involved with the daily activities. Augustus enjoys going out for walks in hand and loves to have a good scratchy brush and pamper. Routine: Augustus is currently out 24/7, he is happy to be stabled over night when needed but prefers to be out and moving. He has worn a rug through Winter in the worst weather and wears a fly rug as needed in the Summer. Friends: He is currently out with other geldings but has also been turned out with mares. He’s calm but playful in the field and enjoys a like-minded friend to crash around with at times, he will happily share hay with his friends. He prefers quiet friends and can be anxious with other more nervous ponies. Feeding Requirements: Augustus is not on any hard food currently, but does have free access to vitamins and minerals. He has access to low calorie forage 24/7, with restrictions to his grazing over the Spring and Summer. He will need a home happy to manage his weight, he would benefit from a home with a track system or similar, with other grazing restricted friends. Medical/Vet: Augustus is good for the vet but can be a little nervous with new people. He is up to date with vaccinations including Flu, Tetanus and Strangles. Farrier: Augustus is good for the farrier but can be a little nervous with new people, he is trimmed every 6-8 weeks as required. Dentist: Augustus has a yearly dental. Vices: N/A Based at: The Hugs Foundation, Bodmin Cornwall. We rehome within the Southwest region, rehomers will be required to travel to our yard and meet the equine and team.

About Augustus (E2021031)

What life with Augustus (E2021031) looks like

Augustus (E2021031) is a senior horse waiting at The Hugs Foundation in United Kingdom.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Augustus (E2021031), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Augustus (E2021031)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Hugs Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Augustus (E2021031) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Augustus (E2021031) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Hugs Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Augustus (E2021031) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Augustus (E2021031) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Hugs Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Augustus (E2021031) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
