Ava

Cane Corso · Female · Adult · 5 years

Ava came into our care as a stray, so we have no information on her prior to arriving with us at Battersea. Sadly, she has clearly had her ears cut at some point in her past. This lovely lady does have a worried side to her, but over time we are seeing her form lovely bonds with her people, and she absolutely adores a quiet cuddle. While a little unsure at first, Ava makes thoughtful choices and takes things at her own pace. She enjoys peaceful walks, calm environments, and a good potter around, rather than busy adventures. Around other dogs, she can feel a bit worried but does show signs of trying to play, and has been gradually gaining confidence and showing more eagerness to interact. She would prefer calm companions to socialise with and will need to be the only dog in the home at this time. Ava would thrive in a quiet home, away from hustle and bustle, where she can truly relax and grow into the wonderful girl we are already beginning to see. Due to her worried behaviours, we feel a more mature household would be best to help continue her journey. With patience and understanding, Ava will blossom into a gentle & loyal companion. If you’re looking for a big old softie to share life’s quieter moments, Ava could be your perfect match. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Ava you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest. for the dog in question.

About Ava

What life with Ava looks like

Ava is a large adult cane corso dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ava, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ava?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ava on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ava if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ava already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ava isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ava and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
