Ayla

Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Ayla is a sweet, friendly and affectionate dog who has had her share of ups and downs in life. Despite being young, she has already experienced several homes and owners. Fortunately, she found a warm and loving home last year where time and love were invested in her. She even actively worked on overcoming separation anxiety. Unfortunately, the combination with her current living situation proved unsustainable, so Ayla is now looking for a place to truly relax. One thing is clear: Ayla is an incredibly sweet, friendly and affectionate dog. She enjoys attention, loves to play and takes pleasure in long walks in the countryside. She also happily rides in the car, making her eager to go on adventures. The main concern is her separation anxiety. When left alone at home, she expresses this through whining, barking and howling. She does not destroy things and is not destructive, but the constant vocalization makes her less suitable for an apartment or a neighborhood with direct neighbors. Therefore, we are looking for a quiet, rural home where she can feel free and where someone is at home daily or only briefly absent. We believe that in such an environment, Ayla will flourish again. A family with older children could be a great match. However, it's important that all family members are present during the introduction so we can assess if there's a good connection. We have little experience with other dogs since Ayla has always lived as the only pet. Any introduction to another dog should therefore be done calmly and gradually. Are you someone who can give Ayla the time, peace and closeness she needs? Then you will get an incredibly loyal, sweet and grateful friend in return. Tell us more about yourself, your family and the home you can offer Ayla. Maybe her story will finally have a beautiful and lasting chapter at your house.

About Ayla

What life with Ayla looks like

Ayla is a large adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Ganzeweide in Veurne.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ayla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ayla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Ganzeweide handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ayla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ayla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Ganzeweide will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ayla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ayla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Ganzeweide early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ayla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
