Adopt Ayuso

Male · Senior · 11 years

Ayuso appeared alongside his sister Teófila wandering the streets of Segovia. We had received several calls alerting us of their presence early in the morning, but we didn't find them until well into the afternoon. They had been walking back and forth under the sun all day, and it was indeed a very hot day. When we saw them lying in a garden under a shadow, we could see how tired, hungry, and thirsty they were. Once again, another victim of the neglect and irresponsibility of people who have Mastiffs for farm or livestock, and who don't care at all if they don't return home. We need official actions against these people to prevent these animals from being abandoned daily as happens. When we arrived at our shelter with Ayuso, we noticed that he had very bad eyes, barely able to open them, and the sun hurt him. We took him to the vet, and a few days later, he underwent surgery on the third eyelid in both eyes. Currently, he is very recovered and sees perfectly. Now we can see his beautiful eyes. Ayuso is a big, rough-looking dog but super affectionate. He loves to play, jump, and give us kisses, although in reality, they are big, rough kisses because he is so large and strong that he struggles to control his enthusiasm. He loves people and is very obedient. The problem is that he doesn't get along well with other dogs and cats and doesn't relate much to them, only with his sister. We want to speak with an animal behaviorist specialist to guide us so that he can have more opportunities and live happier. We believe it is possible to achieve this since he is marvelous. He would be happy in a house with a yard living with a family that gave him lots of love and attention. He is very special. A true perrazo.

About Ayuso

What life with Ayuso looks like

Ayuso is a large senior dog waiting at Protectora de Animales de Segovia in Segovia.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ayuso, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ayuso?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora de Animales de Segovia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ayuso on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ayuso if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora de Animales de Segovia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ayuso already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ayuso isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora de Animales de Segovia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ayuso and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
