Adopt Bahia

Labrador Retriever · Female · Adult · 4 years

Our Bahia is looking for her new forever family! Personality: Bahia is initially a shy and reserved dog. Once the bond is established, she completely transforms into a very affectionate and playful dog. She is sensitive and can get easily excited, a personality trait that her future human will need to learn how to manage. Ideal environment and home: Her ideal home would be in the countryside with a single person who will have time for her and the desire to work on certain aspects of her behavior with her. Experience: Bahia is not suitable as a first dog. However, she has very good basic training that must be maintained. Compatibility: Bahia gets along well with other dogs of the same species; she does not have problems when meeting farm animals. Cats should be avoided. Be careful with unfamiliar humans who might visit her new home, as she can be reactive. Special needs: The person who adopts Bahïa will need to attend classes with a professional in the canine world to improve her discomfort around strangers. Bahia needs a present, active person living in the countryside. She loves long walks/hikes and activities like agility. If you think you can offer Bahia an active and loving life, we would be happy to meet you! In case of interest, please complete the online form "request - interest in adopting a dog". If the criteria explicitly stated in the presentation texts of the dogs are not respected, no further action will be taken on the adoption request. Please also read our placement philosophy. About Bahia

What life with Bahia looks like

Bahia is a medium-sized adult labrador retriever dog waiting at SPA Fribourg in Font.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bahia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bahia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Fribourg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bahia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bahia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Fribourg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bahia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bahia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Fribourg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bahia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
