Adopt Baldo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

In July 2020, three dogs appeared near the animal shelter. Two were caught rather quickly, but Baldo kept a distance at first. Eventually, he was convinced to come in and became part of the animal shelter. Back then, he was at most two years old. Since then, several years have passed, and Baldo has only known life in the animal shelter. At first, Baldo had a great fear of strangers. Today, he is cautious, but if he knows someone and has built trust, he shows friendliness and cuddliness. With his caretaker Salva, he is especially clingy—he enjoys every shared moment, seeks closeness, and even jumps with joy when called. Baldo gets along very well with the other dogs. He is happy about new dogs in the animal shelter and shows no jealousy, even if several are being petted at the same time. Living with so many dogs is still exhausting for him—he is rather a quiet dog and wishes for a home where things are more manageable. Baldo did not like walks at first, but now he enjoys them very much. In a new environment or with much traffic, he is still unsure and quickly overwhelmed. Like many dogs that have only known shelter life, it takes time and patience to acclimate him step by step to life outside the shelter. At the vet, he behaves impeccably. Car rides make him nervous, but in the practice, he is cooperative and friendly—he does not need a muzzle. Baldo is a dog who craves closeness and security. He loves being with familiar people and then shows how much joy and affection he can give. He is not a loud or present dog but a quiet companion who would be happy with a soft bed and a relaxed home. Baldo needs people with patience and empathy who give him the time to build trust and gain security in a new environment step by step. A quiet home—preferably with one or two other dogs—would be ideal. With lots of love, understanding, and a secure framework, Baldo will be a faithful companion who gives his people much joy.

About Baldo

What life with Baldo looks like

Baldo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baldo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baldo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baldo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baldo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baldo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baldo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baldo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
