Adopt Negrita

Mixed Breed · Female

Negrita was rescued together with her companion Estefania from catastrophic living conditions. The two were neglected by a owner who completely disregarded their needs. Since then, they have been with us at our shelter – now for many years. Physically, both have recovered well, but the emotional scars remain. Negrita still lives with Estefania in the same enclosure. The two provide each other with comfort and security. While she is physically fit and healthy, she remains very shy and cautious around people. Only a few trusted volunteers can approach her cautiously – and even then, only within the safe confines of her familiar enclosure. With much patience and a treat as an entrance ticket, she has gradually come closer and now also takes the treat from their hand. She still avoids physical contact, but the small steps show that trust is possible – just at her own pace. Negrita is a quiet, very gentle female dog who gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She avoids conflicts and enjoys lying in the sun with the others. However, she remains very shy around people. When she leaves the enclosure, she keeps at least a meter’s distance from visitors. If there is too much closeness or disturbance, she immediately retreats. Nevertheless, it is not unnoticed that Negrita has become more curious. Her eyes observe carefully, she senses affection – she is just not yet ready to open up completely. Negrita needs a home with people who have experience with very anxious dogs and who can fully adapt to her pace. A quiet environment, ideally rural and with few distractions, would be perfect. A securely fenced garden would be desirable to allow her cautious explorations outdoors. A confident, friendly only dog would likely help her further develop. Children should either not live in the household or be older and understanding. Negrita is not a female dog who quickly adapts or becomes a snuggle buddy within a few weeks. But she is one who can build trust with patience and love – a special dog for special people. Due to her shyness, we cannot measure Negrita precisely, but she has a shoulder height of approximately 55cm.

About Negrita

What life with Negrita looks like

Negrita is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Negrita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Negrita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Negrita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Negrita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Negrita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Negrita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Negrita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
