Adopt Paul

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Paul came to the animal shelter at the age of only two months together with his siblings. The puppies originated from a wild terrain in Bixquert, where a feral dog group lives. The animal welfare workers try to secure this population every year—sometimes with varying success. Unfortunately, there are always new puppies there, either through stray dogs joining in or through unneutered animals. The resemblance between Paul and other dogs from the area is therefore noticeable. While his siblings were rehomed, Paul stayed behind with Phoenix for a longer time—now Phoenix is also adopted. The first weeks at the animal shelter were difficult for Paul. The puppies had to be isolated due to their vaccinations, and despite daily contact with the caretakers, Paul developed into a very shy dog. He was unsure around people and tended to be more withdrawn. However, over time, Paul adapted well to life at the animal shelter. He is very familiar with Eric, one of his trusted people—when Eric is around, Paul lets himself be stroked and even shows affection. With strangers, he still needs time, but his development is steadily moving in a positive direction. Paul has found his place in the dog group and is now considered one of the balanced dogs. He loves to lie in the sun, occasionally plays with the other dogs, and also seeks contact with regular visitors, even letting himself be stroked by them—a significant progress for a once so fearful dog. He is very social with other dogs and closely follows familiar people. His behavior is always authentic—he clearly shows when he still needs space and never pushes himself on. So far, there have been no reports of problems at the vet. Paul always shows a calm demeanor and lets everything happen. Walks outside the shelter are still rare, but with familiar company, this would likely be the next, important step. Paul needs a quiet home with patient and experienced people who do not pressure him and give him time to build trust at his own pace. A confident second dog by his side could help him adapt faster and find his orientation. A house with a garden in a rural setting would be ideal, as Paul does not react well to hectic or loud stimuli. Children should be older and know how to handle fearful dogs respectfully. His future family should be ready to meet him with calmness, structure, and loving consequence—then Paul will continue to develop positively as before.

About Paul

What life with Paul looks like

Paul is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paul, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paul?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paul on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paul if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paul already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paul isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paul and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
