Baldr

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Baldr is a beautiful, approximately 2.5-year-old male dog from the Nordic mythology, where his name means "the Radiant". Unfortunately, this light of his life was almost extinguished forever. At about 43 cm and 15 kg, he was in the public shelter of Zalau, where help often comes too late for dogs like him. Now he is safe in our private shelter in Zalau and patiently waits for his story to have a real happy ending. Despite the traumatic time in the shelter, Baldr has not lost his trust in humans. He is initially shy, not a dog that immediately opens doors, but one who knocks quietly. If you give him a moment of time, his longing for love wins: he comes cautiously and would like to stop cuddling at all. He actively seeks human closeness and yearns for attention, while remaining absolutely pleasant and never intrusive. Even in the run-out, he shows his great character: While playing peacefully and socially with other dogs, he already calls back as soon as you call him. Since Baldr has not had much of a good life yet, some everyday situations are still new to him. He currently has some respect for the leash and dog harness. However, he proves daily how adaptable he is. The local animal protectors are sure that he will learn the dog basics in no time, because this clever fellow is absolutely enthusiastic about tasty snacks. With a patient, loving hand and a few treats, he will surely quickly lay down his little fears. He gets along well with his fellow dogs; a test with cats could not be carried out. For Baldr, we are looking for a loving, rather quiet home that gives him the time he needs to settle into his new life. An existing first dog would not be a problem and could give him additional security during the introduction. Baldr has just barely faced death and is now ready to take off: He is already excited about beautiful, long walks in nature, his own cozy bed, countless caresses and maybe even visiting a dog school together to prove his clever head. Baldr travels neutered, chipped, vaccinated, dewormed and flea-free, with his EU pet passport in tow. After a positive preliminary check, he can be placed for a deposit fee. However, a foster home would also be a good option for him to escape the bleak shelter life. A very heartfelt thank you goes out to his godmother Janina H.! She not only gave Baldr his beautiful, meaningful name with her sponsorship, but also enabled him to take that first, so important step into a new, safe life. Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Baldr

What life with Baldr looks like

Baldr is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baldr, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baldr?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baldr on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baldr if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baldr already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baldr isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baldr and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
