Adopt Bambi

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

The cute dwarf goat girl lived with her mother Hetti in the Sauerland with a friend who loved animals, until the meadow unfortunately became building land. Markus, an agricultural coworker, took the goats in. Unfortunately, he had a disturbed buck goat who so severely injured Bambi's mother Hetti that she died in February 2017. Goats can be really mean to each other…. Then Markus was concerned about Bambi's safety and asked Schutzengel für Tiere, the animal shelter right next to his office, to take in Bambi. Until the autumn of 2018, the then four-year-old Bambi lived peacefully with the already elderly dwarf goat Josefine, but then Bambi realized she was much stronger than Josefine and began pushing her. In the small animal keeping facility there in the winter, it was unfortunately not possible to keep the two apart. Bambi had to learn to bake smaller loaves, and thus the Ziegen-foster home Wiesloch became her new home. Leila, the long-standing and very self-assured old doe in Wiesloch, did not give Bambi an easy time and immediately put her in her place. During the day on the meadow, the three goats got along very well with each other, but at night, Bambi and Leila still prefer separate sleeping quarters. However, since April 2021, Bambi also has company in her stable section – the lone goat Marie from Waldbröl was taken in at Wiesloch. Now, the "Goat Villa" is full. The vet fears that Marie might have a tumor. But Marie moves around very well, is cheerful, and has a blessed appetite. We hope that it stays that way. Such a large tumor cannot be operated on.

About Bambi

What life with Bambi looks like

Bambi is a medium-sized adult mixed breed animal waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Bambi far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bambi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bambi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bambi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bambi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bambi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bambi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bambi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
