Barbie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

female dog BARBIE, born ca. 07/2024, shoulder height ca. 47-48 cm, ca. 16 kilo weight, dog bed wanted immediately The two sisters Barbie and Marie currently live in our partner shelter. They are friendly and social female dogs. With their medium size, they fit perfectly on any sofa 🥰. Marie is the more outgoing of the two. If you sit with them in the kennel, Marie is right there and is happy to receive treats, cuddles, and attention. She often jumps up joyfully and gives kisses. Barbie stands happily wiggling in second place and needs about 5 minutes to warm up and then enjoys being belly-rubbed. Once the ice is broken, she binds herself securely to her people. For both: they likely know few distractions outside their kennel! leash, harness, house, everyday noises: ALL new and initially unfamiliar or even scary. They both seek their own homes where loving and patient people are ready to show them everything at their own pace. Important regarding Barbie: As visible in the picture, her teeth show significant enamel damage (despite her young age). Whether it is from gnawing on the kennel bars, due to defects, or contact with acidic substances, we cannot say. She requires a two-phase dental treatment (impressions, fabrication of "cap-like" covers, and cementing them – both in full anesthesia), which will likely cost between 1 and 5 thousand euros. Of course, we still hope that somewhere loving people will not be deterred and will give this magical female dog a chance at a better life. We do not place in very urban settings or with families with young children. Please only submit an adoption request if the takeover is possible at the time mentioned in the text and you have already discussed the intake of a new family member with your family (and any other involved persons like employers, landlords, or temporary caregivers). The descriptions are based on their behavior in this familiar environment. Especially puppies and young dogs are still in the development of their personalities. For a successful adjustment to a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to adapt to the new environment and grow into secure dogs.

Hündin BARBIE, geboren ca. 07/2024, Schulterhöhe ca. 47-48 cm, ca. 16 Kilo Gewicht, Körbchen ab sofort gesucht Die beiden Geschwister Barbie und Marie leben derzeit in unserem Partnertierheim.

About Barbie

What life with Barbie looks like

Barbie is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barbie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barbie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barbie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barbie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barbie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barbie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barbie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
