Bari

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Bari, born in 10/2019 and standing 54 cm tall, carries a past that no dog should have to endure. He was even declared dead – simply to get rid of the responsibility. But Bari is alive. And how. His heart beats quietly but powerfully, and every day he fights to trust again. Why Bari has it especially hard – and why he must be seen precisely because of that: As a black male, he already has it harder than others. Black dogs have always had a harder time in animal welfare. Not because they are less lovable – quite the opposite. But their dark coat often makes them less conspicuous in photos, their facial expressions seem harder for many people to read, and prejudices persist stubbornly. While light-colored dogs catch the eye more quickly, black animals like Bari get lost in the crowd. They are overlooked, misunderstood, or simply not noticed at all. And when uncertainty comes on top of that, it becomes almost impossible for dogs like him to get a fair chance. Yet Bari is not "just" a big black dog. He is a living being with a history, with wounds, but also with hope. A dog who stays curious despite everything. One who slowly opens up again when given time. His coat color says nothing about his character. It says nothing about how loyal he can be, how deeply he will bond with a person once he has gained trust. It says nothing about his potential to become a wonderful companion. Added to this, people have not always been good to him. Nevertheless, he possesses the necessary curiosity, hope, and the important spark of courage to open up again! During a visit, he thawed a little on the third day. A small sign, but a genuine one. A moment that shows: Bari wants to – he just needs someone who gives him time and sees him as he is. In the right hands, Bari will not remain an unsolvable puzzle. He needs people with experience, patience, and real dog sense. People who can provide clear leadership without pressure. People who understand that trust is a gift that has to be earned. Bari is definitely not a Labrador mix who jumps into every pair of arms right away. But he is a dog who can develop – and who may one day become exactly the loyal companion you wish for by your side. Whoever adopts Bari gives not only a dog a home – but gives a misunderstood heart the chance at a new life. An experienced foster home would also be a wonderful stepping stone into a new life. Bari is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-screening. General note on our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog may show itself differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster at home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced: with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Bari

What life with Bari looks like

Bari is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bari, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bari?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bari on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bari if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bari already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bari isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bari and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
