Barney

Collie Β· Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Meet Barney, our handsome Collie cross! Sweet Barney certainly lives up to his Collie heritage! He is a friendly and affectionate boy who loves getting to know people and playing with his favourite toys. He is an energetic and intelligent lad who will need plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation to keep his busy brain occupied. Barney is looking for owners with experience of Collies or similar working breeds, or those who have done plenty of research into their needs and typical behaviours. He can show stalking and chasing behaviours towards other dogs, as well as some sexual behaviours, so he will need to be the only dog in the home. He can still enjoy suitable doggy friends on walks, but his new owners will need to manage these interactions carefully. Due to his history of chasing cats, he cannot live with them. Barney has struggled with being left alone, showing vocal and destructive behaviours when separated from his owner. He will need a home where someone is around for most of the day, with any time alone built up very gradually. Experience with separation anxiety would be particularly beneficial, and a home where responsibilities can be shared between multiple carers would be ideal. Barney can live with experienced teenagers aged 13+ and will need his own private garden for exercise, training and a little refresher on his housetraining. Barney is a lovely boy with lots of enthusiasm and potential, looking for an active and committed home that understands his Collie traits and can help him thrive. About Barney

What life with Barney looks like

Barney is a medium-sized young adult collie dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Barney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
