Barrullo

German Shepherd · Male · Young · 1 year

German Shepherd mix Barrullo – a loyal family dog is looking for a home again. Barrullo is a young German Shepherd mix who had to be given up by his family with great sorrow. A family misfortune changed everything: a child in the family became seriously ill, and daily life was mostly spent in the hospital. Although Barrullo was loved very much, his family could no longer meet his needs. Barrullo is now in a shelter. For a young, people-oriented dog like him, this is a huge change. From family life into a kennel, from closeness and fixed contact persons into an environment full of stimuli and not enough attention. However, Barrullo is a wonderful young dog. Playful, cheerful and full of joy for life. He is used to living with children and showed himself to be loving and reliable in his family. He also shows social and playful behavior when dealing with other dogs. He meets strangers openly and friendly. He loves company - whether human or animal - and is always ready for shared activities. For his age, he already has a lot to offer: he is smart, attentive and easily reachable. Recently, Barrullo was able to go on an outing outside the shelter together with dog trainers and even there he showed himself to be an attentive and cooperative companion. He reacted very well to subtle body language signals and was gently and clearly guided. Boundaries were understood and accepted, although as a young dog he naturally sometimes asks if they are really valid 😉 Outside the shelter, Barrullo was always approachable. He met cars, bicycles, joggers or other dogs with normal interest. A slight hunting instinct was evident, but he remained well reachable and oriented towards his person. Even if you playfully excite him a bit, Barrullo remarkably quickly returns to calm. Barrullo is suitable for active families. He has already lived with children, but due to his young age and his sometimes rather lively nature, we would prefer to place him with older children. Of course, he is still at the beginning of his journey and will need guidance, structure and activity. As a German Shepherd mix, he needs mental stimulation, movement and longs for a close bond with his humans. Barrullo is in the shelter because his family's life took a dramatic turn. Now a young dog is behind bars, who simply wants to belong. He seeks closeness, wants to learn and needs people. We hope very much that Barrullo does not have to wait long and soon can experience again what it feels like to be at home. Here is Barrullo's video

About Barrullo

What life with Barrullo looks like

Barrullo is a young adult german shepherd dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barrullo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barrullo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barrullo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barrullo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barrullo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barrullo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barrullo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
