Adopt Filemon

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 11 years

Filemon originally came from Hungary, from the animal shelter Nyíregyháza. There he spent many years and was finally allowed to move to a foster home in Germany. Filemon is super unobtrusive in the house and is house-trained. He doesn’t break anything but actually enjoys the peace and warmth. One can notice the first signs of age on him; getting up is already harder, and it takes a moment for Filemon to warm up. We have had him X-rayed and he is on pain medication. Despite this, Filemon willingly goes for walks and loves nose work. He travels happily and calmly in the car. He can sometimes become very curvy, and it has happened that he breaks. Filemon is super friendly with everyone. Overall, he is also very cuddly. There was a bite incident with a small dog a few weeks ago. How it happened and what exactly occurred would be too long for a text, but of course, it would be discussed with any serious interest. Generally, Filemon is very compatible with fellow animals. Due to the incident, the foster home is unsure about handling fellow animals, but a suitable dog trainer is currently being sought so that this can be remedied (Filemon has no problem with this, it is really the foster family). Please only apply for a dog if you can also adopt him soon! Foster homes are not long-term accommodation options – foster homes cannot reserve dogs for several weeks or even months. A quick move into the permanent home is important for the dogs, as they are increasingly settling in at the foster home, which can make a later change more difficult, but it is not necessary if a home is found. Additionally, foster home places are urgently needed because many dogs in Hungary are waiting to take his place. Many thanks for your understanding and support in the interest of the dogs!. Gets along with other dogs.

Filemon stammt ursprünglich aus Ungarn, Tierheim Nyíregyháza. Dort saß er viele Jahre und durfte endlich auf eine Pflegestelle nach Deutschland ziehen.Filemon ist super unauffällig im Haus und stubenrein. Er macht nichts kaputt, sondern genießt tatsächlich einfach die Ruhe und Wärme. Man merkt ihm die ersten Alterserscheinungen an, dass aufstehen fällt schon schwerer und bis Filemon sich warm gelaufen hat, dauert es einen Moment. Wir haben ihn röntgen lassen und er bekommt Schmerzmittel. Trotzdem geht Filemon für sein Leben gerne spazieren und liebt Nasenarbeit. Er fährt gerne und brav im Auto mit. Wird er sehr kurvig, kommt es schonmal vor, dass er bricht. Filemon ist super freundlich mit allen Menschen. Insgesamt auch sehr verschmust. Es gab vor einigen Wochen einen Beißvorfall mit einem kleinen Hund. Wie es dazu gekommen ist und was genau passiert ist, wäre sehr lang für einen Text, wird aber natürlich bei ernsthaften Interesse besprochen. Grundsätzlich ist Filemon sehr gut verträglich mit Artgenossen. Aufgrund der Vorfalls ist die Pflegestelle unsicher im Umgang mit Artgenossen, aber es wird aktuell der passende Hundetrainer gesucht, damit sich das wieder gibt (Filemon hat da kein Problem, es ist wirklich das Pflegefrauchen). Bitte bewerbt euch nur für einen Hund, wenn ihr ihn auch zeitnah adoptieren könnt! Pflegestellen sind keine langfristigen Unterbringungsorte – die Pflegestellen können Hunde nicht über mehrere Wochen oder gar Monate „reservieren“. Für die Hunde ist zudem ein schneller Umzug ins endgültige Zuhause wichtig, da sie sich zunehmend auf der Pflegestelle einleben, was einen späteren Wechsel erschweren kann und nicht notwendig ist, wenn ein Zuhause gefunden ist. Außerdem werden die Pflegestellenplätze dringend benötigt, denn es warten viele Hunde in Ungarn, die dann nachrücken können. Vielen Dank für euer Verständnis und eure Unterstützung im Sinne der Hunde! RegularLabs.EmailProtector.unCloak("ep_7cf1aaed"); RegularLabs.EmailProtector.unCloak("ep_1acb878a");

About Filemon

What life with Filemon looks like

Filemon is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. in Marsberg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Filemon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Filemon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Filemon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Filemon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Filemon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Filemon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Filemon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
