Barwik

Male · Adult · 5 years

Barwik arrived at us from a dissolved animal shelter in Wągrodno, where he spent 1.5 years. He is a naturally cheerful dog and reacts positively to familiar people, although it can be seen that he had various experiences, evidenced by his submissiveness and initial fear of touch. Nevertheless, he has not completely lost trust in people and seeks to establish a connection - he easily talks about food - he's a real glutton! and about walks - he's a great companion! and for some time now his interests have also shifted to massage, wellness and spa - since he discovered that petting his ears, under the chin, on the tummy and under the collar is quite cool;) Barwik is the type of guy who would really like to be a tough guy, but he is embarrassed by the thought that he is actually a super dog. He lacks some confidence, and definitely needs a person who believes in him, supports him and gives him wings. Despite this apparent shyness, Barwik values the relationship with a person, although he can also make independent decisions and does not "cling" to familiar people. Due to his small town or rural origin, we believe he will find himself best in such conditions, or on the outskirts of the city - in a quiet place, rich in nice walking areas. Currently, Barwik lives in a stall with direct access to the yard, where he meets neighbors from the adjacent stalls every day - he can strike up a conversation with attractive female dog, sometimes he has lively discussions with his friends, and sometimes he decides to keep his distance and spend time in his own company. Probably a nice female dog who will show him what it means to live with people will be an additional advantage, but next to a patient, understanding and somewhat experienced person in caring for dogs, he will probably manage on his own as well. We invite you for a walk with Barwik! Learn more here:

About Barwik

What life with Barwik looks like

Barwik is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs garden space and patient owner due to past trauma

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barwik, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barwik?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barwik on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barwik if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barwik already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barwik isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barwik and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
