BARY

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

445388 Bary – Senior – neutered male, born approx. 03/2016, shoulder height approx. 48–50 cm, weight approx. 18.3 kg, at the Belchatow animal shelter since 30.08.2026. Yet another dog that didn't matter to his family: Bary. Bary escaped, was caught, and could be matched to his home thanks to his microchip number. The family's response: they don't care about the dog at all, he's too old, and they don't want him back. Unbelievable! Bary is suffering in the shelter situation here; it's too loud and too cramped. After all, until recently he had a home, and the stress here is taking its toll on him. Agnes brings us the male. At first he is cautious, not quite sure what is happening, but he is not fearful. I walk a few meters with him and let him sniff around, and he becomes more relaxed. Bary is not exuberant, but somehow open; he doesn't push himself on us, yet he stays with us, doesn't try to flee, and the leash hangs loose. He cautiously accepts treats. He has no problem standing between me and Agnes, and this "closeness" doesn't frighten him. He gladly stands next to Agnes; he knows her and trusts her. We can touch him; he doesn't go wild with joy, but it's lovely to see that he stays and doesn't want to leave, that he accepts it. He has a calm manner, perhaps because he can now stand with people? Bary is friendly and sweet, a fine, rather calm male dog who doesn't jump into our arms, but does stay with us. Unfortunately, like many dogs, Bary is far too thin. We wish Bary to be seen by people who will give him a home again, to show him that he is not too old and unwanted, a calm, loving home. The leash causes him no problems. He shares his kennel with males and females. (10/2026 B/KW)

(10/2026 B/KW )

About BARY

What life with BARY looks like

BARY is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting BARY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BARY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BARY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BARY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is BARY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BARY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know BARY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
