Baschka

Male · Adult · 7 years

I am Baschka, a gentle giant with a big heart. I was secured for animal welfare reasons and now hope for a better home for the rest of my life. That’s me: Sometimes I like to assert my size and strength quite deliberately, just as befits my breed. So you’ll need to be sturdy and steady to handle me on the leash. But I also love cuddles and calm walks. I like people and am quite content with them—I could even be with larger, understanding children. I need people who can handle large, heavy dogs safely and with foresight, and ideally already have experience with herding dogs. I’m eager to learn, but I also like to stick my own neck out sometimes—clear rules, calm guidance, and consistent handling on the leash are worth their weight in gold. Whether I can get along with other animals is still uncertain—probably not. Unfortunately, I already have issues with my musculoskeletal system, so my joints should be protected—stairs, of course, are not for me either. I wish for an ground-floor home with a garden where I can lie, sniff, and observe the day in peace—without many steps and with slip-resistant resting spots for my joints. If you accompany me with authority and affection, you’ll get a loyal companion for family, home, and property. Are you looking for a large, strong, and reliable dog partner?

About Baschka

What life with Baschka looks like

Baschka is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Joint problems requiring ground-level home, no stairs, non-slip surfaces needed

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baschka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baschka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baschka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baschka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Baschka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baschka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baschka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
