Basil

Mixed Breed · Male

Basil STRICTLY INDOOR ONLY Basil is one very handsome boy with the sweetest and most easygoing personality. He came into our care as part of the big intake of 62 cats, and he has been such a lovely boy to have around. Basil is extremely placid and gentle, and he really is just happy to go with the flow. He is a super affectionate boy who absolutely loves attention from people. Give him some fuss and he is more than happy to soak it all up. He can be a little chatty too, so you may find yourself having the odd little conversation with him!🥰 Basil is also a bit of a foodie, with tuna and chicken being firm favourites! He enjoys his toys, catnip and scratching post, but when he’s ready to relax, there’s nothing he loves more than curling up on one of his fluffy blankets for a cosy snooze.☺️ And when it comes to other cats, Basil is a real social butterfly. He loves feline company and would love to have a friend by his side in his forever home. He could either be homed with one of the friends he came into our care with, or with another friendly and playful cat already in the home. Basil really is such a lovely, gentle and incredibly easygoing boy who enjoys the simple things in life. He has a wonderful nature and would make a fantastic companion.❤️ We’d love to see this handsome boy find the forever home he deserves, where he can enjoy plenty of affection, tasty food, cosy blankets and, most importantly, a feline friend to share it all with. 🏡🐾

About Basil

What life with Basil looks like

Basil is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Almost Home Animal Rescue NI in Belfast.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Basil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Basil?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almost Home Animal Rescue NI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Basil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Basil if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almost Home Animal Rescue NI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Basil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Basil isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almost Home Animal Rescue NI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Basil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
