Baxter

Male Β· Senior Β· 9 years

Baxter is a beautiful boy who is full of love. He is shy at first, and can show some appeasement behaviours at first to ask for some space. He would love an understanding, patient family that can show him the world isn't so scary. He is a very sweet boy who loves a cuddle on the sofa after a long day. Baxter would prefer for his time alone to be built up nice and slowly, but could be left for up to a few hours once settled. He is house-trained and travels well in the car. We can't wait to see him thriving! Meet gorgeous boy, Baxter! Baxter is a 9-year old Spaniel Crossbreed looking for his forever home! Baxter is a really sweet boy, but can be nervous of people initially so will need understanding owners that can let him come to them at first. He comes around super quickly and is very friendly, affectionate and cuddly. He would prefer for all children in the home to be secondary school age and above to ensure his body language is listened to, and can live with another dog in the home pending a successful meet in the centre. Baxter is chilled in his kennel, and is very strict with his house-training! He has a busy brain, and can chase his tail when over-aroused so will need mental stimulation as well and physical exercise to tire him out. Despite being an older boy, he's still very spritely and enjoys his adventures. He can pull a bit on lead, but walks nicely for the most part. We can't wait to see this handsome boy in his forever home!

About Baxter

What life with Baxter looks like

Baxter is a senior dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Baxter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Baxter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Baxter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Baxter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Baxter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Baxter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Baxter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
