Adopt Beethoven

Male · Young · 2 years

Beethoven was rescued from a situation where he had to live permanently tethered. Despite this difficult start, he shows himself to be a young, active, and friendly dog with great potential. It is likely that he was tethered because he was a large and energetic young puppy who overwhelmed people who did not give him the chance to be socialized and trained. Beethoven is a dog with an exuberant nature, seeking proximity and attention—both from people and other dogs. He still likes to jump up on people or other dogs to demand attention. He is like a large child who still has a lot to learn. At the same time, he has shown us how much positive potential lies within him: he is curious, intelligent, and basically easy to approach. Before coming to Melampo, Beethoven lived for a few days in a foster family. There, he could be worked with well after a short phase of relaxation. In a quiet environment without excessive stimuli, he focuses well and learns quickly. His developmental opportunities are excellent. Beethoven has a friendly nature and gets along equally well with male and female dogs in large dog groups. He actively seeks contact with other dogs but respects their boundaries and retreats when they make it clear they need space. He learns both from other dogs and from people very easily. Beethoven was tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. For Beethoven, we wish for active people with dog experience who enjoy continuing his education and giving him security, structure, and positive guidance. He is young, eager to learn, and brings all the prerequisites to become a wonderful companion. Please inform yourself about the Belgian Shepherd breed, and we hope that the perfect people for him will soon step forward. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Beethoven

What life with Beethoven looks like

Beethoven is a large young adult dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Beethoven, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Beethoven?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Beethoven on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Beethoven if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Beethoven already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Beethoven isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Beethoven and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
