Belisa

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Birthdate: 10.06.2016 Size/Weight: approx. 45cm / 12 kg Children: from teenager age Possible with cats: unknown, rather not Since in the animal shelter: August 2017 Our Belisa came to us from Romania as a young puppy. From the start, she showed great skepticism towards humans – closeness and touch were long unimaginable for her. Despite much patience, empathy, and countless attempts, she did not allow herself to be touched for years, only a bit of treats could win her over. But in early 2025, something happened that we had long hoped for: the breakthrough! Belisa finally began to trust – and now she enjoys walking around in familiar company and loves her little breaks in the animal shelter office, where she can lie down and observe in a relaxed state. This development shows how much is in her when you simply give her time and understanding. Despite these wonderful advancements, Belisa remains a fearful and cautious female dog that needs sensitive, patient, and anxiety-sensitive people. She is looking for a home where no one expects anything of her, but allows her to come at her own pace. Belisa is not a dog who immediately seeks closeness – but she is a dog who learns slowly that trust can grow. And whoever gives her this trust will be rewarded with a very special feeling: the moment when she willingly allows closeness for the first time. 💛 For Belisa, we wish for a quiet home, ideally with a securely fenced garden. People with experience in dealing with anxious dogs can help her take the last steps on her journey to a free, safe life. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Belisa

What life with Belisa looks like

Belisa is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V in Pfungstadt.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Belisa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Belisa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Belisa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Belisa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Belisa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Belisa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Pfungstadt und Umgebung e.V early rather than rehoming privately; they know Belisa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
