Adopt Ben – wartet schon zu lange

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

A character dog is looking for his soulmate. Name: Ben – wartet schon zu lange. Breed: this breed. Gender: male dog. Born: 26.09.2017. In the animal shelter since: July 2023. Ben is not a dog for everyone – but he is just right for someone. The 8-year-old Appenzeller male dog Ben is a real character: intelligent, attentive, curious, and loyal. Whoever wins his trust gets a cuddly, playful companion who loves to romp with a ball, fetch, and be thoroughly brushed. With his trusted people, Ben shows himself to be clingy and cooperative – a dog who seeks closeness when the relationship is right. However, Ben also comes with challenges. His past with an older, unfortunately very inconsistent owner has left its mark. Clear structures and boundaries were lacking, and he knew few commands. Since his arrival at the our shelter Bingen, the team has been working intensively with him – with great success: "Sit," "Down," "Stay," "Out," "Give paw," controlled eating on command, and fetching – all of this now works reliably. Often, a simple praise is enough for Ben as confirmation – he wants to please. Despite these advances, there are moments when Ben suddenly changes: From a calm dog, he can turn into a wild, uncontrollable whirlwind within seconds. In these situations, he barks, jumps, or growls, and sometimes he has even snapped at staff members. Why exactly this "switch" sometimes flips is unclear – it could be due to overstimulation, lack of frustration tolerance, or old patterns. Tug-of-war games are therefore off-limits for Ben. He also shows territorial behavior at his kennel: People passing by are loudly barked at – but he now listens well to a clear command from his trusted people. What Ben needs: Ben is looking for experienced, patient people with a clear leadership style. Consistency is not a wish for him – it is a requirement.

Ein Charakterkopf sucht seinen Herzensmenschen Name: Ben. Rasse: Appenzeller Sennenhund.

About Ben – wartet schon zu lange

What life with Ben – wartet schon zu lange looks like

Ben – wartet schon zu lange is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier in Bingen am Rhein.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ben – wartet schon zu lange, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ben – wartet schon zu lange?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ben – wartet schon zu lange on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ben – wartet schon zu lange if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ben – wartet schon zu lange already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ben – wartet schon zu lange isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein M.u.T. Mensch und Tier early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ben – wartet schon zu lange and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
