Benji (Ben)

Shih Tzu · Male · Senior · 11 years

Benji is looking for a quiet home where he can live out his golden years. He is a handsome boy, who loves his people and dogs alike. He loves a stroll around and a sniffy adventure, but also loves a cosied up cuddle at home. Benji is good in the vets and enjoys a fuss from his friends. Benji is happy to be left for a couple of hours but may need this building up in his new home as he settles in. Benji is house-trained and would prefer to sleep on his owner's bed with them at night, so if this is somethin you can accommodate, maybe Benji is your boy! Meet handsome chappy, Benji! Benji is an 11-year old Shih Tzu looking for his forever home. Benji is happy to live with another dog in the home, pending a successful meet in the centre as he loves the company of his doggy friends! Benji is a really sweet, friendly chap who is looking for his retirement home. He would prefer for all children to be secondary school age and above that are happy to give him some time to himself. Benji is great with all handling, enjoying his trips to the groomer! He is friendly and confident meeting new people, enjoying a fuss. He walks well on the lead and enjoys going for his sniffy walks where he can take in all the sights and smells, but will be just as happy to cuddle on the sofa at home. Benji travels well in the car and likes to share his toys with his people, but would prefer to eat alone as he often waits for his people to leave the room! Benji is a lovely boy, who would prefer a quieter pace of life in his forever home, where he can lap up all the love and nap the day away if that's what he wants to do. He is such a sweetie and we can't wait to see him living his best life!

About Benji (Ben)

What life with Benji (Ben) looks like

Benji (Ben) is a senior shih tzu dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benji (Ben), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benji (Ben)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benji (Ben) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benji (Ben) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benji (Ben) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benji (Ben) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benji (Ben) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
