Bento

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Bento, a little dog born in February 2021. Bento is a very friendly, cheerful little dog with a gentle disposition. We've known him for a while now, so we've gotten to know him better. At first, we had to take care of his health because he arrived with us very emaciated and with several deficiencies. Currently, he looks perfect and weighs over 21 kilograms, which is ideal for him. He also feels great, and his health, appetite, and spirits are all good. So far, Bento has only shown himself to be a non-confrontational boy, optimistically oriented towards everyone around him, and very sociable. The little dog wants to be in the center of attention all the time, tilts his head to be petted, likes to snuggle and cling just to get some attention. His temperament is moderate, Bento likes to run a bit, but after a while, he walks along the run and watches to see if anyone is coming to him. He also doesn't bark for no reason, so he is not annoying. It's great to work with him, and it's clear that he wants to please his human at every step. On the leash, he already handles himself well, and it's not a problem to take him for walks. He is one of those animals that can get along even with "difficult" dogs. He even got along with our Megan, who doesn't tolerate practically anyone. Of course, if he doesn't have an outlet, he will defend himself, but he does everything to avoid conflicts. It's hard to find a dog with more patience than him. When he gets scared of something or a situation surprises him, he takes refuge by running away and hiding, for example, in the shed. In his kennel, Bento doesn't destroy anything and, as much as possible, tries to maintain cleanliness. However, he doesn't like to enter closed rooms like the vet's office or the animal shelter's office. He is decidedly accustomed to staying outside, and over time, he will get used to everything. We hope that this charming and wise little dog will soon leave our animal shelter and find a home where he will be a full-fledged member of the family. We would definitely prefer that he doesn't end up in the shed but lives as close to a human as possible. He will be very devoted to his owner, but he just needs a chance. Bento is microchipped, declawed, vaccinated, and neutered.

Bento, pies urodzony w lutym 2021r. Mamy nadzieję że ten przesympatyczny i mądry psiaczek czym prędzej opuści nasze schronisko i trafi do domu gdzie będzie pełnoprawnym członkiem rodziny. On będzie naprawdę oddany swojemu właścicielowi, tylko trzeba mu dać szansę. Bento jest odrobaczony, odpchlony, zaszczepiony, zaczipowany i wykastrowany.

About Bento

What life with Bento looks like

Bento is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bento, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bento?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bento on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bento if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bento already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bento isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bento and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
