Adopt Kenzo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Kenzo, a dog born in August 2021. Kenzo is a friendly and very quiet dog. When he arrived, he was clearly emaciated, very frightened, and disoriented. He hardly ever left his kennel and wouldn't cooperate. It was evident that he had lost his trust in humans and must have had some unpleasant memories. We knew that regaining his trust wouldn't be easy, but we had many similar situations that ended in adoptions, so we were positive. For the first few days, it was particularly difficult for Kenzo, and he couldn't find his place with us at all. Fortunately, he showed no aggression and didn't protest when being petted. Over time, he became more curious and felt more secure when he saw that nothing was threatening him. Eventually, he began to leave his kennel and wag his tail. This was a significant achievement. Since then, he has improved significantly, and Kenzo has already taken his first walks on a leash. Previously, he was very afraid of it and didn't know what it entailed, but now he leads and wants to go out himself. He still has a bit to go, but there is still a great improvement. We also noticed that the dog likes to run around a lot. On the play area, he hardly stayed in one place and had to sniff every nook and cranny. He gets along with other dogs, but doesn't seem overly concerned about their company. Currently, Kenzo no longer resembles his former self and has almost rid himself of all fears. Since he arrived, we haven't heard him bark, which is a nice touch. However, the most important thing is that now he comes to people and wants to be petted and cuddled. Who would have thought that such a cuddly dog would come from him. We are very happy with his transformation and will continue to work on it. If such a transformation can be achieved in shelter conditions, what can be done by spending almost a whole day with him? That's why we would very much like to see Kenzo placed in good hands where he can fully trust and where he will never be let down. We ask for help for this poor little dog, so that he can fully blossom in someone's home. Kenzo is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and spayed.

Kenzo, pies urodzony w sierpniu 2021r.

About Kenzo

What life with Kenzo looks like

Kenzo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kenzo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kenzo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kenzo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kenzo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kenzo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kenzo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kenzo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
