Berard

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Native Country: Hungary The beautiful Berard has been living at the animal shelter in Kecskemét since March 9, 2026. He was found wandering homeless in Nagykörös and reported to the Menhely. We do not know why Berard became homeless; whether he was no longer wanted or ran away from home. He was not microchipped, and no one was missing him. For Berard, it was a stroke of luck because he likely had to endure a sad life as a chained dog, as his neck was thick with a heavy collar and a large carabiner hung from it. We see the animal shelter as a stepping stone to a better future as a beloved family dog. Our fingers are crossed. Berard is a friendly and nice fellow, but he needs some time to trust people. It was unusual for him to receive love and attention from humans, as his life was probably marked by loneliness and boredom. Slowly, he is finding joy in cuddles and enjoying this closeness very much. In the future, he does not want to miss out on this again. Unfortunately, Berard did not get to experience much in his previous life. However, he is ready to make up for what he missed and is happy to share the school bench with his new people. Walking on a leash is something he is still learning, of course. Berard is looking for dog-experienced people who understand him, can lead, and read him. The animal shelter suspects he is a Schäfer x Kaukasen mix. He would like to live on the land and would be very happy with a garden. Bernard gets along well with female dogs, but he has not been tested with male dogs. (As of April 3, 2026) For our sensitive Berard, we are looking for wonderful people with a good understanding of dogs and a plan for their lives. Berard needs people who can lead him with love but also consistency and on whom he can rely, then he will be a faithful and reliable companion. He wants to make up for and enjoy everything that has been denied to him so far: love, care, varied walks, dog-appropriate exercise, many cuddles, and 100% family integration. Who can be a faithful partner to Berard? Berard can travel from around the end of April 2026 if he finds a home or a foster home.

DE·Show original

About Berard

What life with Berard looks like

Berard is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berard, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berard?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berard on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berard if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berard already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berard isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berard and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
