adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Berni has found his home! His story: Sweet, three-legged tiger looking for his own cozy home. The adorable Berni has had no great luck in his young life so far. He was found after having a terrible accident, most likely with a car. His hind leg was unfortunately severely injured and had to be amputated. Unfortunately, that’s not the only handicap Berni brings. He also has Entropion, a misplacement of the eyelid, which causes watering eyes. Since he is not to undergo a major operation directly, the veterinarians will wait a bit. Fortunately, Berni was still very young at the time of the leg operation, so he quickly adapted to life as a three-legged tiger. He runs and plays through the place like his four-legged friends, is typically very playful and totally charming. Berni is also a real purring machine, who starts the engine at the slightest pretext. We wish for Berni a home with one or more, additional four-legged friends, as he is very social and playful. Otherwise, he would also like to bring a Romanian friend along for the ride. Due to his handicap, only apartment living is suitable for Berni. However, he would be very happy with a secured balcony. Berni can enter his own home once the second operation, on the eyes, has been performed. The pretty furred-nosed one will then be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has also been tested negative for FIV and FeLV and has an EU pet passport in his luggage. Teddy Farms! You have given Berni his name! Status: 29.01.

Vielen Dank Teddy Farms! Ihr habt Berni seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 29.01.2024

About Berni

What life with Berni looks like

Berni is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
