Adopt Betty & Nick

European Shorthair · Unknown · Kitten · 11 months

They were born outside and are approximately 5-8 months old, they do not come from a litter but have likely come together in their need, showing up gradually as a shy cat was run over, who was probably their mother. There are 2 tomcats, who are a bit older, and 2 girls. Through the time spent outside without human contact, they are naturally very shy around strangers and need a relatively quiet home with very patient people who can give them time to adjust at their own pace. Then they develop into playful, curious, and also cuddly kittens. Betty: Betty is a small personality who knows exactly what she wants. At first, being touched definitely did not belong to her, but she is curious and found it exciting when the dot purred when she was stroked. There must have been something to it, and so she gradually warmed up to them, even if she sometimes still gets scared by her own courage and runs away. Now she simply lies right in front of you when she wants to be stroked, and if you then don’t pay attention to her, you might get a little hit… But when you stroke her, she is sweet as sugar and presents her belly to be rubbed with loud purring. Nick: Nick is the shyest of the group; he still finds people somewhat scary, but he is making progress. During group play with the fishing rod, he can relax and play with his cat buddies, where there is a lot of running and cuddling. You usually find him together with Betty on the scratching post, so the two should stay together, as the dream of a home for all four together is probably a bit too big… What he likes is a lick snack right from the finger and generally treats, where you can already win his shy heart and get closer to him through the feeding. Stroking him with a brush is something he now likes very much, but direct hand stroking still finds him a bit scary, so you have to approach him slowly. He is the most challenging of the four, but will definitely become a little cuddler when he gets used to you and you give him time to build trust.

About Betty & Nick

What life with Betty & Nick looks like

Betty & Nick is a small puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Diez in Diez.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betty & Nick, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betty & Nick?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Diez handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betty & Nick on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betty & Nick if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Diez will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Betty & Nick already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betty & Nick isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Diez early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betty & Nick and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
