Adopt Lilly

British Shorthair · Female · Adult · 7 years

Lilly is approximately 7 years old. She grew up with our first dog and there are no issues with the second dog either. Lilly lived with other cats at the beginning, before coming to us. I cannot say how she gets along with other cats now as we do not have another cat. Lilly is not vaccinated as she only lives on the balcony since we live in the attic. But I believe Lilly would like to go outside, which is unfortunately not possible for us. Lilly is shy and reserved around strangers, and I am her primary caregiver. She goes to bed with me at night and always lies with me on the couch. She also likes to snuggle and is often stroked. However, she also needs time in a new environment and with strangers. She has the problem of marking despite being neutered. We have tried a lot in the past two years, but it hasn't helped. But we are slowly reaching our limits.

About Lilly

What life with Lilly looks like

Lilly is a small adult british shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Diez in Diez.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lilly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lilly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Diez handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lilly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lilly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Diez will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lilly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lilly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Diez early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lilly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
