Betty

Bengal · Female

Betty, it could have all been good. 😔 In 2024 the shy Bengal was spayed and microchipped through our animal welfare association. After that she was allowed back to the garden where she appeared. Betty was well cared for by Mr. H. from then on and even had a warm sleeping place in the garden shed for cold winter nights. A few weeks ago, Mr. H. contacted us concerned because Betty seemed quite tired and exhausted. Even food no longer tasted good to her. The dear Marlene secured the cat and brought her to our veterinarian, who diagnosed fluid accumulation in the lungs and advised an ultrasound of the heart. The ultrasound revealed the truth. Betty has a beginning heart failure. No death sentence - not at all!!! But she must take regular heart and water tablets (once daily). That itself is not bad since Betty takes her medication without problems with the food. What's bad, however, is that this means the end for returning to her garden 😔. Since another tomcat is on his way there and established himself, Mr. H. unfortunately cannot guarantee that the Bengal will reliably get her tablets. A life (exclusively outside) is no longer conceivable for Betty 😕. Betty is now looking for a home (possibly also a foster home) where one takes time to let her settle in. She is not a real wildling, but also "not yet" tame. Betty lets herself be touched, never resists, but so far cannot enjoy the touch. She wishes for a quiet home, without much hustle and bustle, with fixed rituals. She WILL arrive if you give her time ❣️ The dream would be secure outdoor access, a secured terrace or an equally secured balcony. Betty loves the sun, the air and lots of peace. Please contact us by phone or email if you can imagine taking Betty in 🍀

About Betty

What life with Betty looks like

Betty is a adult bengal cat waiting at Tierheim Mayen in Mayen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Mayen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Mayen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Betty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Mayen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
