Betty

Saint Bernard · Female · Young · 1 year

Betty will need a family who are committed to helping her build confidence in different areas of life. She can be unsure around car travel and vet visits, so her new family should be prepared to take things at her pace and use positive training to help her feel more comfortable. We think Betty would thrive with an enclosed garden space to explore while she settles into her new home. Betty will need a home with older teens or an adult only home. This sweet girl is looking for a kind and patient home that will support her as she continues to blossom. If you feel like Betty could be your perfect match, please submit an application and add her as a 'Favourite'. Meet Betty, our lovely 1.5 year old St.Bernard! Betty is looking for a patient and understanding home where she can continue to grow in confidence. She can be a little shy when meeting new people so she will need a couple of introductions to help her to feel comfortable and build trust. Once she knows you, her affectionate and loving personality truly shines through, and she enjoys spending time with her favorite people. Betty is good with other dogs and may be able to share her home with another dog pending successful meets here at the centre. She loves a good enrichment activity and then is happy to go for a snooze after! She is very food motivated and absolutely loves her treats, making this a great way to continue her training and confidence building journey.

About Betty

What life with Betty looks like

Betty is a young adult saint bernard dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Betty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
