Betty und Sasha

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 13 years

Weeks ago, the lady from Vartop, whom we had already helped, asked us again for assistance in finding a home for some of her rescued dogs. This time it's about her mother's older dogs. The two female dogs are used to living indoors and their owner can no longer care for them. In the large dog group in Vartop, the two seniors would get lost. Therefore Dana offered to take them into a separate, currently vacant room at the shelter. There they are safe and well cared for, but a shelter cannot replace the security, care and close contact with people that they have been used to their whole lives. That's why we want to try at least to find a new home for the two older ladies - preferably separately from each other and very much with elderly people who would like to give them some more beautiful years. Betty is about 10 years old, Sasha around 13 years. Of course both probably have one or the other age-related problem. A dental checkup may be necessary and Sasha also has a so-called "Cherry Eye". Naturally both should be examined by a vet again. Betty and Sasha are two very loving and friendly female dog. At the end of July/beginning of August 2026 they could start their journey to a new home. We don't know if it will succeed - but we want to try at least. If you can offer Betty (black, 6 kg) or Sasha (brown, 4.4 kg) a forever home or foster care please contact us.

About Betty und Sasha

What life with Betty und Sasha looks like

Betty und Sasha is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Friends for Life Germany e.V. in Hemer.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betty und Sasha, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betty und Sasha?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Friends for Life Germany e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betty und Sasha on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betty und Sasha if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Friends for Life Germany e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Betty und Sasha already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betty und Sasha isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Friends for Life Germany e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betty und Sasha and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
