Adopt Betykó

Komondor · Male · Senior · 10 years

Betykó is a male Komondor born in 2016, who spent more than half a year guarding a house with a 3-meter chain in front of an empty house. He was terribly neglected, thin, unvaccinated, lonely, and lived on cheap dry dog food and a mixture of boiled lentils in a disintegrating bucket. The roof was just a piece of old wooden board leaning against the damp garage wall. His presence had long been unnecessary, his female companion (partner) was taken from him, so the money he used to make from breeding was finally closed off. A handful of love was not enough, nothing ever came to him throughout his whole life, he was only abused. His sad life ended, he was taken off the chain. The life of lack of stimulation left marks on his soul, but every day he is opening up to people, even joining the weekend walking dogs. He is socializable, a kind-hearted dog. We very much hope that someone else will see his loyal personality and can get a chance for a better life. We recommend first of all a family with experience with dogs, and in case of adoption intent, it is advisable to visit several times to get to know each other. He can be adopted as a family member.

A sanyarú életének vége lett, lekerült a láncról. About Betykó

What life with Betykó looks like

Betykó is a small senior komondor dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Psychological trauma from neglect and abuse, requires patient rehabilitation

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betykó, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betykó?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betykó on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betykó if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Betykó already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betykó isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betykó and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
