Bibor

Scottish Fold · Male

Bibor is an incredibly calm, affectionate and cuddly cat who enjoys human company. He also gets along well with other cats. We are looking for a loving home for Bibor in an apartment with a secure balcony. We can generally imagine having smaller children, as long as they treat him with respect. However, there is something very important about Bibor's history: he is a Scottish Fold, which means he is affected by a cruel breeding practice. The typical folded ears of these cats are not a harmless breed characteristic. The cause is a genetically determined disorder of cartilage and bone development, known as osteochondrodysplasia (OCD). It affects not only the ears, but can also affect the entire musculoskeletal system. The consequences can include painful changes to joints, bones and tail, as well as movement restrictions. ⚠️And this is particularly important to us: a Scottish Fold does not have to be obviously lame to be in pain. Cats often show pain very subtly. Less jumping, more sleeping, a changed posture, withdrawal or simply "being very quiet" can easily be misunderstood as a character trait or normal behavior. Therefore, a home for Bibor also means keeping an eye on his health situation on an ongoing basis, taking changes seriously and having him examined and treated by a veterinarian if necessary. Bibor himself is not responsible for how he was bred.❤️ He deserves a home where he is loved and cared for - but his health situation needs to be taken into account.

About Bibor

What life with Bibor looks like

Bibor is an adult scottish fold cat waiting at Tierheim Gelsenkirchen in Gelsenkirchen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bibor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bibor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Gelsenkirchen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bibor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bibor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Gelsenkirchen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bibor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bibor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Gelsenkirchen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bibor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
