Bijou & Diego

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten · 2 months

Bijou (female cat, black and white) and Diego (male cat, black) came from a household where a cat allergy was discovered. They were taken in with heavy hearts. Fortunately, they quickly adjusted to their foster home and recovered from the stress. Both are 3 years old and love to play together. They enjoy human company, can be picked up, and are very affectionate. They have mastered opening doors, which new owners should be aware of to prevent them from escaping quickly. Hiding in a closet or behind a curtain is always an adventure. They love the balcony and enjoy cat grass, catnip, or valerian. Like many cats, they dislike loud noises from the vacuum cleaner or doorbell, as well as a certain level of excitement. Diego is a bit reserved, only when it comes to food and play. During the day, he likes to curl up somewhere. In the evening, he becomes more active and playful. He is affectionate when approached. He chases everything that is thrown for him. Bijou is the more active one. She quickly becomes trusting, is clever, curious, and loves exploring. She enjoys looking out the window and chattering when she sees birds. She is very affectionate, comes to cuddle, and likes to lie in bed with her/his human at night. She also greets her/his human at the front door. Notes: Bijou has a few scratches on her ears that are already healing well. She also wore a collar, which has been removed. The resulting abrasion is also healing. Diego still needs to take a diuretic for about 8 weeks due to his castration, which is mixed into his food and well tolerated. What Bijou and Diego want: a quiet and loving home with fun to play, a view out the window, and definitely a balcony. They are not outdoor cats, but a secure outdoor access to the garden can be considered. Otherwise, they are pure indoor cats and will only be adopted together. Both are vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. Contact persons: Pauline + Jill

DE·Show original

Ansprechpartnerinnen Pauline + Jill

About Bijou & Diego

What life with Bijou & Diego looks like

Bijou & Diego is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Katzenhilfe Hannover e.V. in Hannover.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bijou & Diego, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bijou & Diego?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenhilfe Hannover e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bijou & Diego on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bijou & Diego if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenhilfe Hannover e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bijou & Diego already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bijou & Diego isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenhilfe Hannover e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bijou & Diego and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
