Bilbo & Frodo

Domestic Shorthair · Male · 2 years

I (Bilbo, the black tomcat) am actually a laid-back guy insofar as you leave me alone 😅 Well, at least my food bowl is served to me and maybe a few words are exchanged with me. All good, no problem. If you do get too close to me, I might hiss as a warning or quickly make a getaway. I prefer to be on my "own" scratching post, and you rarely find me anywhere else. If it were up to me, I would even take it with me when I leave 😄 My striped brother Frodo is having a bit of a harder time at the animal shelter and would much rather be invisible. He breaks into a panic over the slightest thing and needs a lot of time to build trust. There's simply too much commotion for such a sensitive soul like him. Most of the time, he spends on his "high perch" and observing what's going on. He loves to be with other cats and their company. Once the animal shelter closes up, however, Frodo is the first to make himself comfortable on the couch 🙂 A pure farmyard place where we would have to run around outside is not in the cards for us, we are simply too fond of the cozy house. An ideal spot would be in a very quiet/countryside area where we can go in and out whenever we want (a cat flap would be recommended and we already know about it). For the acclimation process, however, please allow plenty of time and don't rush things; a private undisturbed retreat helps us a lot here. The rest will take care of itself and just needs its time. Children or too many changing people should not be in the household. Other cats, however, can be very much welcome! Even though we are both rather unassuming and currently avoid contact with people, we hope that we will also find a suitable can opener for us. We are, despite our extreme reticence, thick as thieves, curious, and love to play. I am sure we could become friends and have a lot of fun together. It just needs the right, patient people to make it happen ♥ Do you think you are the right person for Frodo & Bilbo or would you like to get to know them better? About Bilbo & Frodo

What life with Bilbo & Frodo looks like

Bilbo & Frodo is a medium-sized adult domestic shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: Extremely shy and anxious cats requiring very quiet environment, patient owners, and gradual socialization

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bilbo & Frodo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bilbo & Frodo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bilbo & Frodo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bilbo & Frodo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bilbo & Frodo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bilbo & Frodo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bilbo & Frodo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
