adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Bilbo can travel directly to his final home! His story: Bistrita, Romania. Here, our Bilbo waits to find his heart's home. Bilbo is a male dog, about four months old, and will likely be medium to large when fully grown. With his shiny, deep black, and short fur, the little one already appears very graceful! We believe Bilbo is a Labrador mix. Labradors are known for being intelligent, playful, and affectionate, but also bringing a healthy dose of temperament. His calm and incredibly loving nature can already be sensed in the photos: his gaze and round eyes reveal how gentle and pleasant he is, especially in the company of other fellow animals. But especially with people, he is a true treasure. At first, he may be a bit reserved, but he quickly becomes trusting and cuddly once he receives love. It must be considered that Bilbo should not be left alone at all for the time being. Even though Labradors are generally referred to as "beginner dogs," Bilbo is still a shelter dog whose previous life and experiences are largely unknown. Therefore, it is especially important to give him plenty of time to settle in and become comfortable. Bilbo has a shortened tail and cannot enter the Swiss territory. This is likely congenital. Additionally, Bilbo is almost still a baby – meaning he needs to learn the dog basics first. But if time, love, and patience are invested in his training, he will surely grow into a loyal companion. Also, puberty is still ahead. A time when hormones are on the loose, boundaries are tested, and dogs have their own minds. Therefore, a lot of patience and strictness are needed during this phase to raise a charming companion – but one thing is certain: puberty will pass, and with the right training, the bond between human and animal will only become stronger. A visit to a positively working dog training class could also be beneficial, as it can intensify this bond and, most importantly, boost the dog's confidence. Bilbo is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated, and he also carries an EU pet passport. Many thanks to Lena for naming Bilbo!

Vielen Dank Lena! Du hast Bilbo seinen Namen geschenkt!

About Bilbo

What life with Bilbo looks like

Bilbo is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bilbo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bilbo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bilbo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bilbo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bilbo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bilbo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bilbo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
