Odin

Mixed Breed · Male

Odin – a strong-character dog seeks experienced people with heart &; Odin is a mixed-breed male dog, born around 2019, who came to our animal shelter as a stray. Unfortunately, no owner has come forward for him. Much of his past remains unclear – but one thing is quickly apparent: Odin seems to have experienced several chapters in his life. At our animal shelter, Odin has shown himself to be friendly and attentive so far. The animal care team is currently getting to know him better and gathering step-by-step more impressions of his character and needs. Odin is compatible with female dogs, but he has not yet been tested with male dogs. According to statements from a previous owner, there have been some biting incidents in the past. Therefore, we are looking for dog-experienced people for Odin, who can read body language, provide clear structures, and are willing to work responsibly with him. Odin needs people who do not judge him hastily but approach him with calmness, patience, and understanding. Dogs with a history often bring insecurities and experiences that take time to overcome – but they also often have great potential for a close bond and real trust. For Odin, we wish for a calm home without children, ideally with people who have dog experience and can provide him with security and orientation. With the right guidance and a stable environment, Odin has the chance to finally settle down and find peace. Odin is a dog who does not need to be "perfect" to deserve a chance. He is looking for people who are willing to look beyond his history and show him a new path. &;&; If you are seriously interested, we would be happy to arrange a meeting by phone.

About Odin

What life with Odin looks like

Odin is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Odin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Odin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Odin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Odin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Odin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Odin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wally-Bangert-Tierheim Lohr am Main early rather than rehoming privately; they know Odin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
