Adopt Birdie

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Birdie is a neutered mixed-breed female dog born in March 2025, who, along with her five siblings Bessy, Betsy, Benson, Blossom, and Britta, was found on the grounds of a factory near the shelter in Svilos. She is now ready for a loving home where she can stay forever. Despite her insecurity, it is clear that Birdie longs for human proximity. The company of her siblings gives her a lot of comfort and security. A home where a confident, friendly dog already lives would be ideal for Birdie. A four-legged friend could help her orient herself to her human family and reduce her fears. Birdie gets along exceptionally well with other dogs. She likes to play with them, runs joyfully across the meadow, and shows her cheerful, carefree side. Her behavior towards cats and other animals is unknown. She is especially enthusiastic about anything related to water. Splashing and playing in the water are among her greatest passions. For Birdie, we are searching for a patient and sensitive family that has no expectations of quick progress and gives her the time to learn that she is safe in loving hands. With understanding and calm, Birdie will learn to trust and fully enjoy life as a family dog. The height of the female dog is approximately 47 cm, and she weighs around 15 kg.

About Birdie

What life with Birdie looks like

Birdie is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Birdie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Birdie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Birdie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Birdie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Birdie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Birdie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Birdie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
